Hi,

Is there a recommended number of hours to prep for the GMAT. I was thinking of 180 hours. Too much? Too less? About right?...any thoughts/feedback welcome.

this is very broad! each person is different and if you really want some feedback from some of the pros, then you have to post more information (target score, weak/strength areas, materials, etc. etc)

Exactly, I know guys who don't have to study at all, take the test immediately and score 700+ and I know people who need to study for years before they are ready.

check gmattutor.com - they have some good hour plans.. choose the one (or choose a modified one) that suits your needs and strengths/weaknesses

Guys I have a similar question. I just started preparing. I wrote GRE a few years ago. Will that help? All I am scared is of the AWA section.
Any suggestions ?

I didn't think of it in terms of hours...try to spend a couple hours a night on 3-4 weeknights each week on practice questions, and do a full test each weekend, until you feel ready.

GMAT is a completely different beast when compared to the GRE.
BTW the AWA section is the easiest section on the entire GMAT test.
Follow chineseburned's AWA guide and you should be golden.

There is no "fixed" time limit for your GMAT Prep . For some people 2-3 months is enough for a 700+ score . However , for some others it takes close to a year . It all depends on what your starting level is and what your target score is . Ideally you'd want to budget about 3-4 months for your gmat prep .
