Re: How can I improve from 650-680 range to 700 in less than a week? [#permalink]

Dear All,

In a less than a week I will retake GMAT. My utmost goal is 700,
Is it possible given my mock scores? Where should I put increased focus? In which part it is the easiest and quickest to improve?

So far I scored on Kaplan mocks as following
660 ( Q44 , V36 )
680 (Q43 , V40)
610 (Q40, V34 )

and GMATPrep (before my 1st attepmt)
640 (Q43, V34)
650 (Q40, V39)

but to be honest I would be quite happy to score anything 640+ because although I was scoring 650 range in mocks , on my 1st attempt I scored 560(Q39, V26) My biggest fear is to repeat this mistake and after all this effort and mock tests- to score below 600.

Please advise, what can I do to improve my odds for better or at least to avoid the worst.

Thank you.

It's really hard to increase 50 points within a week. It's nearly impossible.

With your 1st attempt score, I think that there are many things that could effect your overall scores. For example, you could left out the IR and AWA parts in GMATPrep, so you could become so worried during actual test, and so on. Hence, I think you could retake GMAT.

However, consider retaking your test in a different date. You could improve your score, but you need time to prepare. Are there any reasons that you want to retake the test too soon?

Dear Nguyendinhtuong

Thank you very much for your insights.

Since my first attempt it's been almost 2 months with life happening in the middle. I thought this 1,5 month would be enought apparently not...

Here is what i think =>

Given your mocks, you are currently at a V35-40 range.
That is a great verbal score.

The good news for you is ->>It is much harder to improve in verbal than is to improve in quant.
So all you have to do is focus on some areas on quant to get a 700+

One week isn't going to cut it.
Set aside 1-1.5 months for the hardcore Quant practise.

Download the GMATCLUB-Math Book.
Its a great resource that will help you clear the basics.

I recommend focusing more heavily on two topics=> NUMBER PROPERTIES and STATISTICS.
Did you know that if you master these two topics you can score as high as a Q49.

Set aside 1-1.5 months.
That is all its going to take.

Also => Follow
Bunuel on the forum.
Solve each and every question he posts.
That will help you get in the GMAT-Quant zone.

All the best

Stone Cold

Dear Stonecold

Thank you very much for your response.

I always hated math, never knew that it will come back to haunt me like this.

Since on my first attempt I blew up verbal section, I spent last 1 month on solidifying verbal to not to score 26V again. I was thinking Quant is fair enough given where I started.
I will now tackle the quant until the exam , this Wednesday.

Thank you again

Honestly it is very difficult to increase 50 points in a week. I say one should give it atleast a month. However, if you are confident with your preparation then by all means go ahead. Do let us know if you are able to improve your score as that will be a huge motivation for everyone. Secondly what are the courses you are referring for your verbal and what is your opinion about Kaplan CATs. Are they worth Buying?

All the best for your GMAT. Hope you do well.
