Hello experts.
I recently gave the GMAT on the 25th of August. I scored a 710 with Q50 V35 IR8 AWA6. I was really disappointed with my verbal score. Prior to the official exam I had given 6 official mocks. The results were as following.
Official Mock 1( 05/08/2021 ) - 780
Official Mock 2( 12/08/2021 ) - 750
Official Mock 3( 15/08/2021 ) - 770
Official Mock 4( 18/08/2021 ) - 760
Official Mock 1( 21/08/2021 ) - 770
Official Mock 1( 23/08/2021 ) - 770
I gave all the mocks at home but followed all the rules of the Official GMAT. There weren't any repeated questions on any of the exams, I didn't pause the exam at any point and I strictly adhered to the two 8-minute breaks. For the last 4 mocks I attempted all the 4 sections and all my mocks and the official exam were given in the VQIA order. From my practice scores, I had a really good expectation for my GMAT scores. However, it didn't go as expected. I really need to up my score till atleast 760. Kindly help me in understanding how to move forward.

Hi ASHISHARORA287,
First of all, 710 is a great score to secure. However, I can understand the feeling of getting 750+ scores on GMAT official mocks and not being able to reflect the same in the actual test. I can see that you are almost there. So, don’t lose hope. Just a little brush up/guidance will help you understand what is holding you back. Let me help you.
Scoring high on mocks but not able to reflect the same in actual GMAT may be because of multiple reasons. You may find this article useful:
https://blog.gmatwhiz.com/scored-low-on-gmat/Your individual score break-up indicates that you have a solid command over Quant. However, there is still room for improvement in Verbal.
Your Verbal score suggests that you are good enough with two of the three modules (SC, CR and RC) and need to work on the other one. You should consider identifying the weaker module, analyse your setbacks and turn them into your strengths.
Let me tell you that the improvement to V40 is all about
identifying the core pain points not only from a conceptual standpoint but also from a methodical standpoint. Let me elaborate.
You're probably doing decently well on the easy and medium questions but when it comes to hard questions the issues start surfacing. What it means is that the methods that you might be using are not efficient. There is a need to improve the methodology and focus on logic. Using the right methodologies and strategies to approach the Verbal questions should ideally help you to avoid the traps set by the test makers. If you do so, it is possible to improve your score to V40 and push your overall score as well.
The right methods for SC is meaning based approach (not splits), CR is framework driven pre-thinking and RC is involving yourself in understand why the various parts of the passage is written and not just what is written.
In short, if you work slowly on your approach and focus on learning from each question you should see a significant improvement in your score.
If you are struggling with some specific topics, you may share the same for better understanding and I can help you out with your worries.
Having said this, I would like to know what is the approach you followed during the test along with a few other things (including your exact pain points) so that I can suggest you a more structured plan and help you with advanced strategies as you would not have much time to spare now. It would be great if we have your ESR available at the time of discussion. If you wish to discuss this over a call, you can schedule a free consultation call using the below link. Considering the effort, you have put, I would really like to know the concerns and help you improve your score.
