Re: If a line has a slope of –2 and passes through the points (4, 9) and [#permalink]
Let the equation of a line y=mx+c
slope = -2 implies y=-2x+c ...........(1)

we find C (y intercept) as the line passes through point (4,9)
9=-8+c
c=17

equation of line : y=-2x+17
the line also passes through point (6,y)
y=-12+17
y=+5

alternately , we can use SLOPE FORMULA to get y

Expert Reply
Slope = \(m = -2 = \frac{y - 9 }{ 6 - 4} = \frac{y - 9 }{ 2}\)

=> - 4 = y - 9

=> y = 5
