If Beth spent \$400 of her earnings last month on rent, how much did Beth earn last month?

(1) Beth saved 1/3 of her earnings last month and spent half of the remainder on rent.
(2) Beth earned twice as much this month as last month.

St I
Beth saved 1/3 of her earnings last month and spent half of the remainder on rent
Let x be the salary of Beth
400 =(1/2)*(2/3)*x => x = 1200 ------------Sufficient

St II
Beth earned twice as much this month as last month ------------Insufficient

Hence Option A is correct

Rent = \$400

1) =>

Rent = 2/3 * 1/2 * Earnings
Earnings = \$1200

Sufficient.

2) => Not sufficient.

If Beth spent \$400 of her earnings last month on rent, how much did Beth earn last month?

(1) Beth saved 1/3 of her earnings last month and spent half of the remainder on rent.
(2) Beth earned twice as much this month as last month.
