If it takes Nathan 4 hours to unload a moving truck and it takes Iris 2 hours longer than Nathan to unload a moving truck, how long would it take the two of them, working together, to unload 2 moving trucks?

A. 5 hours

B. 4 hours, 48 minutes

C. 4 hours

D. 2 hours 24 minutes

E. 2 hours

combined rate
10/24
for 2 trucks ; 24/10 * 2 = 48/10
4.8 hrs = 4 hrs , .8*60 = 48 mins
4 hrs 48 mins

Nathan’s rate is 1/4, and Iris’ rate is 1/6. Letting n = the time that Nathan and Iris work together to unload 2 trucks, we can create the equation:

(1/4)n + (1/6)n = 2

Multiplying by 12, we have:

3n + 2n = 24

5n = 24

n = 4 4/5 hours = 4 hours and 48 minutes
