If \(x\leq{4}\) and \(y\geq{10}\), what is the range of the numbers in the set {5, 8, x, y}?

(1) 3x + 5y = 72

(2) -7x + 7y = 56

From Kaplan Premier P800 Q4

We will need to find x and y since those are the min and max for the set. The range in terms of x and y is \(y - x\).

Statement 1:

Does not give y - x, insufficient.

Statement 2:

\(y - x = 8\) so the range is 8. Sufficient.
