when a marble hits the jug without going in, X = 1 Point
when a marble goes into the jug, Y = 2 Points

Statement 1:
3 times X = 3 Points, which is Odd. Sufficient
Statement 2:
5 times Y = 10 Points, which is even. Sufficient

One point is awarded when a marble hits the jug without going in

(1) Exactly three of Maurice's marbles hit the jug without going in.

Gives us odd irrespective of marble goes into the jug bcoz odd + even = odd

Hence Suff

(2) Exactly five of Maurice's marbles went into the jug

two points are awarded when a marble goes into the jug

10 points but what if 1 marble is hit the jug without going in so no info about it

when a marble hits the jug without going in, X = 1 Point
when a marble goes into the jug, Y = 2 Points

Case 1) If marbles hits the jug without going in = 1

Question has mentioned only two conditions. So I don't think assuming a case, in which there are any points if marble hits the jug and goes in would be correct.

Oh okay! So how can we solve Statement 2?

Assuming two cases as NandishSS mentioned. Is it correct?

That should do, his reasoning is better.

St 1) Score = Odd
Therefore either score or no score for remaining hits, the o/p will still be odd, i.e O + E = O
Sufficient

St 2) Score = Even
But you have no detail on remaining hits and miss, could be even or be odd.
Insufficient

Hence, A.

But, please correct me if I am wrong ehh :P

Question stem:
2A+B=M

A is no of toss when marble get into jug
B is no of toss when marble just touch the jug without going into it

Statement 1
B = 3
so e+o= o
Sufficient.

Statement 2
A= 5
e+o= o
e+e= e
Not sufficient.

A is answer.

exactly three hit jug = 3 points ; odd so now any hit if it goes inside will give even points odd+even ; odd
sufficient
