Well...

Indeed...

... but seriously, yeah: it depends on what you want to do. Don't just blindly pick finance. It can be a very lucrative career path, but also a consuming one... it depends on what path in finance you want to take. For example, investment bankers are rumoured to work 100 hour weeks and have no life outside of work for the first part of their career.

I am looking at specializing in finance. Not from a finance background. Looking to enter in finance stream? In today's world, anyone can learn anything, which will help one to get a better job. And a learner always try to learn new things. Is that right?

Thanks

If you don't have a finance background do you at least have a strong math background? The formulas can really start to pile up, even in basic finance.

But I agree, with the wealth and access to information in today's world it's relatively easy for a bright person to specialize in pretty much anything (given dedication). To be good in finance you'll also have to be pretty good at accounting (reading balance sheets, income statements, etc.) and be willing to work under lots of pressure.

OP,

You'll have to be a lot more specific when you say 'finance.'

Did you mean investment banking? Or the various fields within private equity? Or corporate finance (eg FP&A) at a fortune 500? They're all fairly different.

If you want to do it...do it. Who cares what strangers on the internet think. Background doesn't matter with respect to your general interest, but will matter if you are looking at the "high" end of finance (ibd, asset mgmt, etc). With respect to the math, I wouldn't let that discourage you. I am not good at gmat/high school math, but have no problem with finance math. It's just about knowing what to do. The actual calculations are simple.

Thanks for your response and some wise ideas are motivating too to do Finance. You don't need to have strong math skills for finance. Yes, one need to have thorough accounting principles. I found a smarter way to learn accounts in quicker way. This site https://www.simple-abc.com offers one to build the accounting skills quickly.

I don't want to join a certificate course, where one gets only a printed doc with not enough knowledge.

So, I am charged now to do finance.

Thanks,
Robert
