Hello all,
I am applying to MFE/MathFin programs this season and wanted to get an idea about the competitiveness of my profile:
GRE: 340 (Q: 170, V: 170, AWA: 5.0)
Undergrad GPA: 72% from a non-IIT engineering university (Among top 10-15 universities in India)
MBA from one of the top 3 Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) with GPA of 7.34 out of 10.
Work experience: Finance manager at a top global consumer products corporation, overseeing product pricing
Other credentials: Have passed CFA Level 2, FRM Part 1, and have a certificate in C++ Programming for Financing Engineering from Baruch College in New York City, and informal experience in MATLAB and R.
I am applying to Columbia MFE, Columbia MAFN, Carnegie Mellon, Baruch, NYU Tandon MFE, NYU Courant MathFin, Rutgers, BU, Fordham.
Roughly, what are my chances at these schools, given my credentials? Am I being too ambitious with my choices? Also, how much of a problem is my lack of relevant work experience going to be? Is it a deal breaker? Would really appreciate any insights.
Thanks!
Hello
redridCongratulations on aspiration to pursue MFE/MQF program.
You absolutely nailed the GRE
Your application list is awesome
there is no need to sell yourself short, you have great credentials, where CFA+PRM+ C++ from Baruch +MATLAB+ R, do make a difference.
I don't see a reason why you would not be admitted to all of them.
I urge you to check their websites, but as far I see (checked Baruch and Columbia) and know, working experience is not condition for admission.
If you had experience and job in quantitative finance, you most probably would not need MFE degree.
This is not MBA.
What kind of specialization, topics, research, you are interested in Quantitative Finance ?
It is obvious you want to be in or close to NY
Good Luck !
