Moe uses a mower to cut his rectangular 90-foot by 150-foot lawn. The swath he cuts is 28 inches wide, but he overlaps each cut by 4 inches to make sure that no grass is missed. He walks at the rate of 5000 feet per hour while pushing the mower. Which of the following is closest to the number of hours it will take Moe to mow the lawn.

(A) 0.75
(B) 0.8
(C) 1.35
(D) 1.5
(E) 3

Total area of the lawn - 90*150 feet
The swatch is 28 inches wide, but the effective swatch is 24 inches.
1 foot = 12 inches , so 2 feet = 24 inches.

Therefore,
Total number of times he needs to use mower is
(90*150)/2

And he walks 5000 feet per hour , so he will require
(90*150)/(2*5000) = 1.35
Hence option C

given
area = 90*150
area to be cut = 28 inches-4 inches = 24 inces = 2feet
so effective area to be cut is 90*150/2 = 6750
rate = 5000 ftph
so time = 6750/5000 = ~ 1.35 hrs

Since he overlaps each cut by 4 inches, he actually cuts 24 inches, or 2 feet, at a time.

To determine the amount of time it will take, we can divide the total area of the lawn by the rate times the width of the cut. Thus, the time it will take is:

(90 x 150)/(5000 x 2) = 13,500/10,000 = 1.35 hours
