I know this topic was introduced months and months ago, but I just came back from a part-time info session at NYU...

Quote:
i have heard that there part-time program has
1. limited access to career services

The part-time program at NYU has it's own career services center (NYU Stern's Career Center for Working Professionals, CCWP). The reason is that people in the Langone program tend to be working individuals who cannot attend classes during the day. Therefore, the part-time students are assumed to be unable to go to the recruiting events scheduled for the full-time students (because you're supposed to be at work). The CCWP is used by Langone students and all Stern MBA alumni, and has weekday evening and Saturday hours. Separate recruiting events are set up for the Langone students to fit into their schedules. I think the rep said that usually these events are held on the weekends.

Quote:
3. Your degree as PT will in GM and not in finance or something. Is this true ?

Langone was actually Stern's first MBA program, and the full-time program came out of the part-time. Therefore, the two are the same except for career services offered. When you graduate, you get an MBA in General Management with the ability to specialize in up to three different areas. I think they have 22 specializations available.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the information.

It is clear that there are career services available to students in the PT program. However, a question remains regarding the level of services relative to the FT program.

Where does Stern stand with regard to early career applicants? Applicants with 2 or less years work experience? Does it completely disregard such candidates or at least consider their applications and actually admit some of them?
Thanks!

good school for IB [#permalink]
This school is a good option to consider for those wanting to develop an IB career.

1) The best strategic location -- close to Wall Street. Student can visit banks daily.
2) Well-known professors -- Damodaran (valuation)
3) Moderate GMAT requirements

Many people with strong profiles regard NYU as a target school rather than a reach. For example, my numbers are 700/3.85 and Paul Bodine recommended I consider NYU as a target/reach school rather than simply a reach (like Columbia). Can anyone explain why this might be the case? Comparing the two:

US News Overall Rank - 9 (CU) vs. 10 (NYU)
US News Finance Rank - 3 (NYU) vs. 4 (CU)
GMAT- 708 (CU) vs. 700 (NYU)
GPA - 3.4 vs. 3.4
Acceptance Rate - 17.1% (CU) vs. 19.9% (NYU)

Since NYU's acceptance rate is also very low, it seems like it would be a reach. Is it possible that the reason it can be considered more of a target because the applicant pool is of a lower caliber overall compared to Columbia?

On the whole I think they have the same candidates - I am always surprised when I find people who applied to one and not the other. The fit is very different, however. I feel I would have been a bit of a disaster in some ways at Columbia.

No clue, however, check out the acceptance rate:

What would it look like if CBS didn't have ED? CBS acceptance rate would certainly be higher.

Any insiders on this forum who can effectively compare NYU to Stern? Industry perception of the two schools, etc?

I don't follow - NYU = Stern (for Business School). Same place - or are you asking the school as a whole vs NYU as a whole?

Anyone have any thoughts on their econ specializaton? Just based on my research they seem to have one of the better curricula for econ and stats.

anyone have any insight into this question (from a few years ago)? i know some schools like HBS are trending younger, whereas others like wharton are still pretty 'older' so to speak.

There is at least one '07 (college) grad in the MBA Class of 2011, and a fairly large number of '06 grads. The average age of the class is just under 27 years; not a significant change from past years.

What do people think about Stern for finance vs the UE? Comparable? Does the amazing NYC location and solid alumni base provide a nice boost to recruiting?

from what i've read, i think if youre hardcore set on finance post-mba, the stern is your next best option after wharton, booth and CBS.
