so lets assume a profile of a guy ( say ajay)

scored low GPA range 2.3- 2.8 (non iit , non NIT)

has good GMAT score 720 - 740 (balanced score)

is a indian student who has done b tech

wants to build a alternative Transcript

has just graduated and doesnt want to work in industry (construction) in which he has done his Btech (civil)

inclined towards finance and want to peruse in that

believes he would be wasting time in doing job he doest likes just to gain experience

is aiming for top colleges like Wharton , Booth , Kellogg , HBS

so what could be your advise for ajay :roll: what courses would you recommend for alternate transcript + any other tips ?

Well, the first question I'd ask this guy is: When does he want to do this aforementioned MBA? And my second question would be: if he wants to go into finance, who doesn't he train himself first by preparing CFA and looking into Masters in Finance programs rather than an MBA?

What would ajay think?

this guy believes .. the sooner he goes into this feild the better .. the most important part is going into top colleges for him

according to ajay MBA is more than just a learning experience it is an opportunity to get exposure ..to meet the best in the corporate word

to make friends and contacts that will help him life long

so what would you say now about this guy

Hmmm, the only problem is that without the three+ years prior experience, Ajay can't really get into any MBA programs. So basically he has two choices:

1. Get a job and work for three years (or more) and THEN apply
2. Choose an alternative program like at MF which would help him switch over (which means two more years of studying and not working)

and what about low GPA of ajay .. should he go for CFA or something during those 3 years

I'm afraid so. But keep your eyes open, you may find some great opportunities or something that will lead you to another. The low GPA will be a hindrance, and probably rule out Top 10 schools, but depending on how you do at work, you can aim for other top schools. In the meanwhile, just try and find the job that you will like the most, and that will give you the most leadership opportunities.

Or Ajay could work in the construction industry in the sales & estimation or procurement department which involves a bit more commercial aspects than technical aspects thereby giving Ajay the opportunity to interact with the finance department of the company...
