A national survey done by University of Michigan found that there was a 20 percent increase from 1965 to 1981 in the average number of hours men spent in caring for children and housework.

A. in caring for children and housework.
B. caring for children and doing housework
C. doing housework and child care
D. in the care of children and housework
E. in doing housework and the care of children

A simple one...i took a long time..Answer is B.

Is there only a parallelism issue or are there any issues of usage?

Please explain

A is wrong. caring for children makes sense, but caring for housework?
C is a close one. I can't offer why it's wrong...I just think B is a better answer.
D and E are wrong, because they are too long.

My answer is B also. Although I see nothing wrong with C.

Is "doing child care" idiomatic?
If not, B is the best answer.

Answer is B, because the second part of the setence was missing a verb. You need to add a verb that is parallel to "caring" and you have the answer.

C can't be the answer because it violates the integrity of the sentence. "Chid care" sounds like action noun or place where men spent more hours. So that's another thing wrong with it.

caring and doing are in parallel action.

B is clean.
