The idiom indicative of... is used to state a fact, or series of facts.

I would go with D cause

1) we have a singular subject here

child's thinking, child's accquistion of XYZ, child's emotional skills....all are singular so we need "is" at the end,

now E distorts the meaning and makes it sound passive...

D is much clearer
