The managers convinced that ... is the correct form.

(A) they should join forces to optimize production on the belt rather than attempting to be contrary. --> Run on sentence.

(B) that they should join forces to optimize production on the belt rather than attempt to be contrary.

(C) about joining forces to optimize production on the belt instead of attempting to be contrary. --> Convinced about is incorrect. + Instead of and gerund is incorrect.

(D) for the joining of forces to optimize production on the belt rather than attempt to be contrary. --> ||ism problem

(E) to join forces to optimize production on the belt rather than attempting to be contrary. --> ||ism problem

i also eliminated the choice on same line of thinking but ca you tell me is use of should correct convinced that + should acceptable

I know why you raised this question. :)

Convinced is not a subjunctive verb here.

That should rule is valid for subjunctive verbs.

... X rather than Y , X and Y need to be parallel.

X is join (verb form)
Y should be attempt (verb form)

split into branch

- they should join

- they attempt

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:



Convince about’ and ‘convince for’ are idiomatically incorrect. Eliminate C and D. The other issue in this sentence is parallel structure. The parallel structure is ‘join’ and ‘attempt’. A and E violate parallel structure. Choice B is the correct answer.
