Non fiction = 44+50 = 94
Fiction = 58+64+104 = 226



Non fiction to fiction ratio = 94/226 = 47/113

Hence option C = 47/113 is the answer.

Solution



Given:
• Out of 320 library patrons, people read either fiction or nonfiction genre books
• In nonfiction genre, categories and respective readers are:
    o Biography/historical = 44
    o Science/nature = 50
• In fiction genre, categories and respective readers are:
    o Historical = 58
    o Mystery = 64
    o Science/fantasy = 104

To find:
• The ratio of number of nonfiction readers to the number of fiction readers

Approach and Working:
• Total number of nonfiction readers = Biography/historical + Science/nature = 44 + 50 = 94
• Total number of fiction readers = Historical + Mystery + Science/fantasy = 58 + 64 + 104 = 226
• Ratio of nonfiction readers to fiction readers = \(\frac{94}{226}\) = \(\frac{47}{113}\)
Hence, the correct answer is option C.

The ratio of non-fiction to fiction = (44 + 50)/(58 + 64 + 104) = 94/226 = 47/113.
