nandan,

you reasoning is spot on.

but one can start a novel with the intention of making it a piece of art but not succeed in the endeavour .

if we assume that common man cannot recognise a piece of art ever then best sellers are not art . so may be E

if the best-seller is not a great literature, which is concluded by other authors, then it isn't an artwork
