The question asks whether x is less than or equal to 11. So, if x is 11, 10, 9, 8, ... you get an YES answer. (1) says that x is less than 11. So, we have an YES answer to the question.

Your question on (2) is not clear.

Bunuel Please correct me if my understanding is wrong

From the first statement we deduced that x<11 it means x can be 10 9 8 7 6 et al But it is not satisfying that x can be 11
and hence not sufficient.

The second statement comes down to x>9 .But for x<=11 means the value can be 6,7,8 so not sufficient.

May be I am getting confused and want to clarify this.

I have a question regarding this:
(1) says x<11 but not x =11...
suppose the problem is such that Statement(2) infers that x <=11.....(which is exactly what is asked in the question)
Then what will be the answer(D) or (B)....

In other words if question asks <= or >=... and from a statement we find only ">" or "<" or "=" to be true..... should we take the statement a YES or a NO

Look you already have statement I sufficient, so just forget about it while looking at statement II.
Now if as you say statement II gives x\(/leq{11}\), this is also sufficient.

So both statements are sufficient individually..

Hi Chetan...
If both statements in the above problem inferred x=11... what would be the answer?
If both statements inferred x<11 but not = 11 then what would be the correct answer?
