I agree that B's construction us a little awkward with the "that contained.. That held" but isn't C saying that the mummy is still in the gold coffin? Doesnt this qualify as additional, irrelevant information?
Or is there something structurally/grammatically wrong with B itself?

Please suggest.

the use of past perfect is wrong here

B. uncovered the most splendid architectural find – a stone sarcophagus that contained a solid gold coffin that held
held is wrong here trying to convey the meaning coffin was holding mummy and now that feature is not available ( we need present tense here)

C. uncovered the most splendid architectural find – a stone sarcophagus containing a solid gold coffin that holds
correct coffin still holds that mummy

D. uncovered the stone sarcophagus containing a solid gold coffin holding the most splendid architectural find,
intended meaning of the sentence is that archeologist have uncovered most splendid architectural find
construction of the sentence is wrong trying to convey meaning that a solid gold coffin already contain most architectural find

E. uncovered the stone sarcophagus that contained a solid gold coffin that held the most splendid architectural find,
same as D

Hi

It is true that the coffin still holds the mummy when uncovered sarcophagus. So use of held is not appropriate
