The ages of Shivali and Tanisha are in the ratio of 11:7 respectively. After 8 years the ratio of their ages will be 15:11. What is the difference in years between their ages?

A. 4 year

B. 6 year

C. 8 year

D. 12 year

C. 14 year

Solution:

We can let the ages of Shivali and Tanisha be 11x and 7x, respectively. We can create the equation:

(11x + 8)/(7x + 8) = 15/11

15(7x + 8) = 11(11x + 8)

105x + 120 = 121x + 88

32 = 16x

2 = x

Since the difference in years between their ages is 11x - 7x = 4x, the difference is 4(2) = 8 years.

Take a random number for their present ages.

Suppose Shivali is 22 then Tanisha is 14 so that ratio is 11:7

After 8 years: Shivali: 22 + 8 = 30 and Tanisha: 14 + 8 = 22

New ratio: 30 : 22 = 15:11

Difference in age: 22 - 14 = 8
