Although Women's work has changed considerably in the past 200 years, the conditions under which women work have changed little since before the Industrial Revolution: the segregation of jobs by gender, lower pay for women as a group, jobs that require relatively low levels of skill and offer women little opportunity for advancement all persist, while women's household labor remains demanding.

After reading it again...I feel C may be the answer though with the use of segregation and lowering....

It is a tough one. I thought it is a RC. :lol:


A, B --> X, Y, and Z persist, while A remains demanding. << not parallel

D --> "not to mention" imprecise
E --> "as well as" does not being in the required contrast.

You're actually wrong when you say:

"A, B --> X, Y, and Z persist, while A remains demanding. << not parallel "

X, Y and Z are collectively plural so they need a plural verb = persist. A is singular and needs a singular verb = remains.

Yes, The answer could be B.

There no subject-verb disagreement in this question!

"A, B --> X, Y, and Z persist, while A remains demanding.

I mistook "demanding" for a verb. Here, the verb is "remains" and
"demanding" is an adjective.

Therefore, in a simplified form, the sentence should read as follows.

X, Y, and Z all persist, while A remains

Where "persist" and "remains" are parallel.

but B definitely lacks parallellism though....Then how can it be correct???moreover there is a lack of continuation just before all persist....

Explanation:
the W (the segregation of jobs by gender), X (lower pay for women as a group), and Y (jobs that require relatively low levels of skill and offer women little opportunity for advancement) all persist, while Z (women's household labor) remains demanding.

My answer is choice B
According to me C is incomplete with

Can we have a sentence in which there is a coma before and like in

If yes then the answer should be B

I think it is [E]

the segregation of jobs by gender, the lower pay for women as a group, the jobs that require low levels of skill with little opportunity for advancement all persist, as well as women's household labor remains demanding.

2 reasons:
1. Maintains parallel form "the"
2. Follows a series, ex:- S in T, U in V, W in X and /(as also) Y in z

A cant be correct, unless there is the conjunction, and, between lower pay and jobs.
