Is \((x - y)(x + y) < x - y\) ?

Note we cannot cancel \(x - y\) on both sides until we know the sign of it.

Statement 1:

Now that we know \(x - y\) is negative, cancelling is simplifies the question to "is \(x + y > 0\)?" Insufficient.

Statement 2:

If \(x - y\) is negative, then yes. If \(x - y\) is positive then no. Insufficient.

Combined:

Sufficient.

The answer should be E

Case 1: x=1, y=2, the expression in the question stem is True
Case 2: x=0.2, y=0.3, the expression in the question stem is False
