Not silly at all...would be silly if you didn't understand and decided NOT to ask!! :)

$1 gets us 8 grotniks and 8 kronkheits.

12 grotniks gets us a gazoo. We have 8 grotniks plus enough kronkheits to get half of another grotnik. So we have 8.5 of the 12 grotniks required to get a gazoo. 8.5/12

question says It takes 16 kronkheits to make a grotnik so (8 kronkheits is one-half of a grotnik)
$1 can be exchanged for 8 grotniks and 8 kronkheits, or say 8.5 grotniks

The Kingdom of Zenda uses an unusual currency system. It takes 16 kronkheits to make a grotnik and 12 grotniks to make a gazoo. At current, $1 can be exchanged for 8 grotniks and 8 kronkheits. For how much American currency can a visitor from Zenda exchange a 100-gazoo bill, to the nearest cent?

A. $11.76
B. $70.83
C. $85.00
D. $141.18
E. None of the above

Given: $1= 8 grotniks + 8 kronkheits
16 kronkheits= 1 grotniks
12 grotniks= 1 gazoo

for 100 gazoo

1 gazoo =12 grotniks
100 gazoo = 1200 grotniks

$1=8.5 grotniks
therefore 1200/8.5= 141.18
