Re: sc - struggle continues.... [#permalink]
Sigh.... I guess that's why we all frequent this forum so often right? I'm also in the same boat as you guys. My test was supposed to be on Monday but I reschedule to Sept because my verbal just sucked that much. (this was confirmed after doing several practice exams). I haven't been able to get my verbal score above 34 (and that is on the high end). My math is okay (although I haven't concentrated as much) but my verbal brings down my overall score. I didn't take the verbal section very seriously when I first started studying and now I realize just how difficult it is to get to that level. I feel that I have exhausted all possible resources and I am going to try the Manhattan Sentence Correction book and perhaps enroll in an online course (too much going on with work). My advice to you is to keep practicing but also understand the structure of the sentence and look out for traps - try to stay focused (I seem to have a problem with that), and try not to feel bogged down by the details. The key is having the foundation (knowing the tenses, idioms, passive vs active voice, etc) and being able to pick apart the sentence. I have also completed the 1000 SC (along with questions from SEVERAL other sources) and I remember getting 60% in the beginning but towards the end I was averaging 75% to 85% and I would say a lot of the mistakes I made later were SILLY mistakes. Don't get discouraged! We're all here to help each other!

Re: sc - struggle continues.... [#permalink]
Well.....i have been studying for GMAT for around 2 weeks now and i get like 70 -80% SC correct...at times maybe a lil more then that but thats it..
i think without proper knowledge of grammar as few people have in this forum ..you cant get 100% SC correct...honestly...apart from knowing a few basic rules for GMAT SC i rely a whole lot on my ear...but again...personally...if i can get like 85% of SC correct on real GMAT then i would be satisfied...because i definitely don't have time to get hardcore grammar education now...for people who have time on their hands.....i think they should really pick up a good grammar book.
