Re: Quitting Your Job [#permalink]
yes, MBA now, because the demand for my skills is in my area of technical expertise. Which is what i want to get out of.. That`s the reason for doing an MBA, as I`m effectively pigeon-holed by my skillset.

The `promotion` and new department do not effectovely change my role. Merely recognises my responsibilities. The product management role is the one i would go for, but that`s a complicated situation.

My advice:

* I got 5 hours sleep last night
* Thats pretty much normal these days
* I'm about to run to class
* I'm not totally prepared for it

Thus:

* Quit immediately
* Take time off
* Enjoy yourself
* Relax
* Do nothing
* Do absolutely nothing
* Sleep
* Nap
* Eat
* Sleep more

Cause grad school is like drinking from a firehose.

Sounds similar to when my first child was born ;) Except running to class can be exchanged with caring for the child.

Any repercussions for having a 7 month gap in your resume for quitting now? Or is it common enough that companies may expect this before many students enter B-school?

Sounds pretty intense but exciting! ... Seriously though, I can't wait to go to b-school. It's getting harder and harder everyday to concentrate at work. :)

man, just found out that Anderson Days admit weekend overlaps with this corporate training course I signed up for already. Should I cancel the course or skip the admit weekend? You need VP approval to cancel corporate courses that you are nominated for. Grr...

When is admit weekend for UCLA? I think if its post Haas decision you should hold off on saying anything. If you get into Haas then no need to worry about going to UCLA...if its past mid feb, there is always the possiblity that you may hear from Kellogg before then too.

I just had to outline my work goals (by quarter) for 2008 for my new boss. For Q3, I just put: I plan to leave for school around this time. HOORAY!

Re: Quitting Your Job [#permalink]
it's actually in March. I was still thinking of going to check out the admit weekend even if I get into Haas (and/or Kellogg), just to see if there's something that may sway my decision there. Are you saying I should just not go if I get into schools I most likely will choose over UCLA?

I will take July to travel - We have already decided 15 days in Egypt, perhaps more 10 in Ireland and other European place - and then I intend to settle in US the beggining of august.

I decided to take some language courses, English and Spanish, this semester, and in August the pre courses that schools usually offer.

So, I'll work until the end of June!

kwam - i just spent 15 days in egypt! it was fabulous! be careful of the police convoys. that almost screwed up our entire schedule. :roll:

well i don't have any acceptances yet, but if i get one, i plan on leaving my job at the end of may. i really need to salvage my sanity.

planning on either going to western europe or australia/new zealand for a month. then volunteering for the rest of the summer before school starts. :)

How does health insurance work?

Do people normally just go the summer without insurance?

Can you buy some 3 month insurance package?

I'm either going to shell out for Cobra or jump into my bf's insurance.

COBRA lets you extend your work insurance for 6 months... so I guess unless I find someone's insurance plan to jump on (how are you doing it, mba2010? declaring domestic partnership?), I will probably wait till end of March to quit, just in case.

Yes, domestic partnership. Its cheaper than Cobra and I can stay on it the duration of my bschool career. I'm pretty sure I can get on mid-year as "change of status" or whatever rahter than have to wait for open enrollment. My insurance is better since I work for a much larger company than he does, but its better than nothing!

Do you need to register with California or anything to get that from his company? Interesting idea. Wonder if school insurance is better (and cheaper) or your boyfriend's company's...

I'm willing to bet corporate insurance is cheaper and more comprehensive. But that's just a gut answer. He's been on my insurance before and all we had to do is sign an affidavit that we are domestic partners. His company seems to be similar.
