Interesting Problems

Hello. I don't plan to apply to a business school for awhile, but i'd like to set the groundwork now. Just trying to figure out the next steps. This is open to Hjort, or anyone else who would really like to comment.
Background:
23 year old male,
Undergraduate: economics
740 GMAT
GPA: 2.5 (!)
2+ years of owning a small company while in undergrad; it's done pretty well, except for a hit in the last quarter.
A year of teaching
Currently managing training and operations for a medium sized marketting firm
Martial artist
Have attended some of the informal interviews just to gain background on various schools. Free advice and an excuse to get out.
Current plans:
Currently, not applying the business schools because I'd like to have more practical knowledge first. My understanding is that the learning process is more valuable when you can apply it to your own past experiences. Moreover, I'd like to have a strong resume AFTER a master's program. I really am not an academically minded individual, i'd really like to spread my wings a bit more from the career end. I was going to stay in my current position for a couple of years to gain a little more background to work from.
Issues to figure out:
Undergraduate GPA: Speaks for itself, as far as admissions are concerned.
Company ownership while in college: Not sure how to use this from an admissions standpoint. Something I'd definitely like to strategize
Program selection: Not really trying for an super-elite school- just want to find the best fit. Moreover, also worried about field/career selection. Originally, I was interested in finance, but ended up much more interested in management. Part of a program strength for me would be capability to find what I really "click" with. That, and a strong career services department.
"Weirdness/Flakiness"- my background just looks kind of strange, when i sit bad and look at it. My jobs have all been applicable to my overall goals, but they have been in vastly different industries. Don't want to seem inconsistent.
Advice is greatly appreciated, as are general comments. I'd like to see what a third party thinks.
