Re: Calling all MIT Sloan 2008 applicants [#permalink]
collegsenior, was just about to post the following link to the accepted chat transcript when I saw your latest post.

https://www.accepted.com/Chat/Transcript ... 7_mit.aspx

I think MIT waitlist is definitely a good position to be in, mainly because a lot of MIT admits also get admits from Chicago GSB, W, H and S. I am sure you will get in. :gl

For international student, visa considerations are quite real. Anyway, let's see how things pan out :)

Good luck - R2 applicants.

Some advice: I think I had a strong application, but a bad interview. In retrospect, I should have been more familiar with S-T-A-R technique and with de-constructing situations to what I thought, felt, did etc. Urge R2's to be better prepared than I was.

I've tried to remind myself to be disappointed  After my bad interview, I was delighted to WL.

Kwam,

Definitely had to run your BW post through AV babelfish to understand the Portuguese. I have an extremely tough decision to make as well between Boston and Chicago (though slightly different than yours). I look forward to meeting you at AdMIT weekend!

I'm with you guys Steel and Kwam... the Boston/ Chicago/Evanston debate is likely to linger for a couple more weeks, although Chicago has the advantage right now since they already hosted a local admit event here and I've had the chance to meet about 30 fellow admits. Starts to grow on you quickly once you meet people in person. Have either of you considered trying to talk to the schools about scholarships and how that might help you make your decision? I've been debating whether to go that route.

Wow so many admits..a big congrats to you guys. For the waitlists there is a flicker of hope keep it burning. For the dings, a lot of times life has twists that turn out for the better. Look for the silver lining.

JP, meeting people in person definitely helps a school grow roots. I met some people at a prospective student event held in my area for Kellogg and its definitely helped to add even more excitement for it. I'm trying not to allow order of acceptance / time in the spotlight cloud my decision though - since I know I have loved both Sloan and Kellogg since the beginning. I'll probably make my decision sometime right after AdMIT weekend since it is the 2nd of the two sell weekends.

As for scholarships - thats a good question. I haven't really made finances a huge part of my decision making calculus up to this point (I figure I should go to the best fitting school - I'll figure out how to pay for it one way or another). I think I'd first like to get a better idea of which school I have preference for before I come to a conclusion on scholarship approach. I have heard that Kellogg won't negotiate with respect to scholarships / financial aid - not sure about Sloan.

Re: Calling all MIT Sloan 2008 applicants [#permalink]
Can I add myself to the admit list? I could hardly believe it. I had to step away, come back, and re-read the email to be sure that it really said I was admitted. I'm still half expecting the "oops, we messed up, you're rejected" email.

Anyone else out there with lingering questions as to whether Kellogg or Sloan? I'm waiting for R2 decision to MMM. I'm leaning mostly toward Sloan. I want to do something hi-tech, especially biotechnology. Sloan just seems to have the edge in proximity and reputation for hi-tech.

How are others deciding?

nontraditional, based on what you said you want to do, I think MIT is a better fit. Make sure yourself by attending the admit weekends, but no one can beat MIT in tech (and I'm a huge Haas fan saying that :P)

If you take a Macbook Air with you to MIT, I am sure the engineer-posse is going to bitchslap some sense into you. you might also get a belated ding, I am sure they will make an exception for that. :run

   , good one. But still US5k for a computer? Will it be D&G series for the ladies and Zegna for the gents?

I still think that this Air thing is so thin and light that taking it everywhere would be really nice, especially because I will have a desktop home (an iMac). As you can see I´m an Apple fan.
