Dell does give you good value...1000 bucks should get you a powerful laptop...
I had bought an Inspiron 710M about 2 yrs ago and have had no issues whatsoever. I plan to beef up the RAM and buy an extended battery for school.

Be sure to check out the deals on this site,

I plan on purchasing an IBM Thinkpad T61 (unless a new model comes out in the next couple months) w/ 14.1 inch screen. The size is perfect for taking to class every day and they are very durable. I've had a T42 for work for the past 3 years and its been beat up and taken with me on travel etc. and I've had no problems. Also they are fairly cheap ~$1000 for a pretty good configuration.

Re: Laptop for business School? Any preference [#permalink]
I just got an Apple 3 months ago and really like it.

I got a macbook pro and also installed vista on it. The only reason I prefer using Windows is because of Office. I've been using pretty extensively at work and am used to all the shortcuts, and unfortunately a lot of them are different in the OS-X version of Office.

If you plan on going into something like IB or consulting after an MBA, your company is going to give you a windows based PC and I really don't want to learn shortcuts on Mac and then re-learn windows shortcuts when I start working.

So, my suggestion(if you want to get an Apple) is to use Office in Windows and use OS-X for anything else.

yes, the "Great Laptop Discussion Forum" will get you many current students' opinions.

I'm getting an X61 myself... was thinking of the Lenovo X300, but it's too expensive for the Solid State Drive (albeit it's very nice).

I'm think of going with the MacBook Pro. From what I hear, the compatibility issues are all resolved with Bootcamp and / or the Parallels desktop virtualization software. The only thing that's holding me back is the price...

KK- I have a regular MacBook, and I love it. And the Parallels/BootCamp option resolves any compatibility issues.

Prices are the same for same capabilities. Only thing is that Apple has less choice than PC.

I went with the X61 from Lenovo. Light, powerful and not too expensive.

Re: Laptop for business School? Any preference [#permalink]
Right now, I'm debating whether to purchase a Macbook. I plan to purchase an iPhone soon, and my school (HEC) has some kind of deal with Apple. I'm nervous that problems may arise due to compatibility. What if, for instance, I can't open certain files necessary for a report or assignment?

I realize that this concern has already been addressed in this discussion and others, but it's still on my mind.
