I took a GMAT today and got 740 (49/41, 97%). Long preparation finally paid off!

It was even back in Sept. 2006 when I firstly took a GMAT and got miserable 540! I was so much disappointed. Later on, I took it again and scored 700. But I felt impression that it was not good enough for securing a safe place for PhD. So I decided to take more but ended up with even lower score. Terrified! I did regret my decision to take another GMAT. However, I didn't give up. And finally today I saw a score of 740.

Practice makes things perfect. It sometimes takes time and paintful effort. But we should accept the fact that they will pay off later on. I do not have any special tips which are different from the tips posted here. 1000 questions, GMATprep (it really helped me a lot!!!), and the forum! For the forum, you don't need to be an active participant. People here provide good questions to practice. However, if you're active, then probably it would give you more benefit. For me, the GMATprep really gave a lot of assistance. Try them as many times as possible. Once you consistenly get over 700, then it's time for you to take the real GMAT. The score won't be far away from the practice scores. A few days to the real test, I got consistenly over 700, sometimes 780! Though my real score is below 780, I am still happy with it. So try it as many as possible. But for sure you need to build up some fundamentals by utilizing the 1000 questions and other sets (from the previous real GMAT tests).

Good luck to you all. Remember, practice makes things perfect!
