Re: Mike's manhood destroyed by Robin on MyHusbandNeedsAJob.com [#permalink]
I find his story rather depressing too, so I'm trying to come up with (flimsy) reasons for his travails here and make myself feel better about my own MBA prospects. :)

Mike has a degree from a decent school in DC, a background in operations, a consulting internship with a large government contractor, and is looking to get into brand management in the Bay Area?

It would seem to me that he insists on working in a rather different industry than the one he has the most experience in? So Mike's a career changer of sorts, which as a lot of current students here have pointed out, has been the kiss of death at many schools this year.

Moreover, most Elite/Near Elite business chools are, in my opinion, inherently regional in scope when it comes to graduate placement and Mike might have (perhaps?) done better if he were looking for a job in the DC/Va area as opposed to in Northern California?

Anyone else?

Mike's manhood destroyed by Robin on MyHusbandNeedsAJob.com

For those unaware of the latest internet buzz, Robin, a wife of a former 2008 MBA graduate from Georgetown created a website My Husband Needs a Job (MyHusbandNeedsAJob.com) in an attempt to get a job for her husband Mike.

The story is getting publicized as a cute, offbeat story that captures the core issues and problems facing Americans in a difficult economy.

While that might be somewhat intruiging, what's more interesting is that Mike's wife Robin publicly severed his manhood for millions of viewers to see. Even more disturbing is that Mike is fine with it.

Ugh, this is embarrassing. On one hand, it'll certainly increase his visibility; it's creative and may help him get hired, but only for certain types of jobs, e.g., marketing. On the other hand, it makes him seem desperate and (I hate saying this) pathetic. Certainly not a good reflection on him. I feel bad for the guy, but surely there's a better way of getting a job. Hope nobody - girlfriend, family, friends, etc. - ever does a "favor" like this for me. Help is very much appreciated, but not when it's so public!

Yeah, weird. It looks good when you download it. Don't know why he didn't use the same format on the web page, which would have been easily accomplished.
