Preparation:
1 week, 2 hr per day of Reading and Listening exercises from TOEFL
Official Guide and Princeton TOEFL. I did not practice Writing or Speaking sections.
If you have prepared for GMAT, you might have used your fingers while you eliminate the wrong answer choices. I tried following the same for TOEFL IBT but guess what, TOEFL has only 4 ans choices (as against 5 of GMAT). I went crazy I as would sometimes close my pinky when I meant to discard the 4th ans choice.
Unfortunately the test center closest to my home was not accepting test takers anymore. Since my app deadline was round the corner, I could not wait for the next test date. I ended up picking a test center that was 50 miles away.
Test Day:
I was very tired by the drive and the reading section was adding its toll on me. It seemed like a never ending parade of passages. Even though TOEFL reading section is much easier compared to the GMAT RC, the answer choices can be tricky and one might end up picking the wrong one.
Listening section went very well. I was hoping for a 30 in it, but not sure where I went wrong.
Speaking section really baffled me. I had not practiced it during my prep but I knew the guidelines and type of questions. I found it difficult to be concise, coherent while maintaining the clarity of the speech. The 15 sec preparation time was not sufficient for me. But then all the test takers get the same questions and I guess that levels the playing field.
I was very exhausted by the time I reached the writing section.
