hi all,
i was invited to interview earlier this week (submitted on deadline day) and am superexcited for my visit. i have planned the interview, lunch with a student, and a valuation class, with only 15 min between the lunch and class. is this cutting it too close?
also, do you know if there is specified attire? should i assume business attire?
thank you!
best of luck to all...
Congrats on the invitation! Are you interviewing next week? (I am.)
As far as attire, if you were only visiting a class or even lunching with a student, nice business casual would probably suffice, BUT you are interviewing. For an interview, I would definitely go for business attire (suit!). Since you're doing everything else on the same day, better to default to the more formal wear. The students are going to peg you for an applicant no matter what, no one's going to judge you for being a little overdressed in class (maybe take the jacket off if you feel uncomfortable). But you definitely don't want to risk the admissions committee judging you for being
underdressed.
As far as cutting it close, it is
possible that the class actually starts fifteen minutes after they tell you... I believe this was true when I visited (although class was the first thing I went to) and in any case it would be a pretty smart policy in order to minimize disruption by prospective students coming in late. Regardless, I'm sure if you tell the student ahead of time that you have a class to go to at such-and-such time, and could s/he give you a sense of how long it might take to get there, I'm sure s/he will be quite understanding. Maybe you'll even get an escort to the class. (They obviously welcome friendly/helpful students to participate in admissions events, at least in my experience.)
Good luck!
