Vivek - yes I did complete the verbal section. I think you can get yourself out of trouble much easier on the verbal section with timing issues than quant. On verbal if you're short on time, just read through the question once and go with your gut feeling. On quant since you still have to do calculations you're pretty screwed!

I would say I got a pretty even mix of SC/RC/CR questions. The reason it took so long is because they all looked wrong to me. CR was actually the only section I was confident about. SC was the worst - every sentence looked convoluted. Some CR logic didn't make the most sense either.

People will tell you the number of questions you miss and the resulting score depends on the difficulty of questions you're getting. However I also found there was more variance in quant than verbal. Sometimes I would get the same quant score whether I missed 7 or 13. I personally think verbal is relatively more predictable so let me give you some data points from practice:

Knewton V47: Missed 3
GMATPrep1 V42: Missed 6
GMATPrep2 V42: Missed 7

Don't remember the rest. Judging from the above I probably missed 4 on the actual verbal section, which I still can't believe...

From what I 've read in several debriefs, I gather that SC on the real thing is much harder than SC in GMAT Prep and OG. Would you agree that they are actually more challenging or is it the stress factor which make the SC look harder on the real GMAT?

youven - I did think the SC was harder on the actual GMAT. I don't know if I would call it "harder" or just different. The sentences were longer than the GMATPrep and in each case I could think of a better way to write it. I tend to do better on actual exams than practice, so stress wasn't a factor for me, but for others it may be more mental.

Wow...can't believe I've read through hundreds of these debriefs already and somehow missed this one. Great score and very inspiring. My first attempt and breakdowns were almost exactly what you had, and everything you said about prepping and the resources chosen have been how I felt so far too, so maybe there is hope for me yet!

I think I read this debrief before, but it really didn't sink in until I read it today. The reason is probably because I'm struggling with my studies now and this seems very motivational to me. Verbal is my strong suit, but my Quant is seriously lacking. I'm finishing the Foundations of GMAT Math book, and am going to redo the Number Properties. I don't want to take anymore of the CAT's until I'm done with all 5 Math books. I was able to take from this that I need to make sure I mix in some verbal questions while studying the quant section. Don't want to have a strength turn into a weakness on me. Anyone have any advice for quant score increases? Thanks in advance!
