Hi all - I'm new to this forum (although I had joined a long time ago) and recently took the GMAT after interrupted studying for over a year. I have a job which keeps me on planes, hotel rooms and airport lounges the majority of the year and thus my studying patterns have been erratic. However I've been focused on studying the last 2 months and ended up scoring a 610 (Q46: V28).
I've been shooting for a 680 and here are all my practice exam results:
MGMAT 1: 630 (Q40: V36)
MGMAT 2: 640 (Q43: V34)
MGMAT 3: 660 (Q44: V36)
MGMAT 4: 630 (Q39: V37)
MGMAT 5: 650 (Q44: V36)
MGMAT 6: 660 (Q45: V35)
Veritas: 620 (Q40: V37)
Princeton Review: 600 (Q40: V33)
Kaplan: 610 (Q39: V37)
GMAT Trial 1 May 2011: 610 (Q46: V28)
As you can see I've been consistently scoring within my 30 point standard deviation 610-670 and happen to score on the lower end of the range of the day of the exam.
THIS IS MY BAFFLING ISSUE: I truly felt I bombed the math and felt I did very well on the verbal and lo and behold I score the my HIGHEST composite score (EVER) in the math and LOWEST composite score (EVER) on the verbal!
I'm thinking if I would have scored Q46 and V37 that would certainly put me at 680. I attribute the recent mismatch in my score due to the incredibly low probability of sieving through the countable questions in math correctly and getting most experimental questions on the verbal correctly and missing the ones that actually count! Any thoughts on this?
I've already signed up to take the GMAT again at the end of August so would love to hear your thoughts on how I could prepare a self-study "test-taking/strategy focused" game plan from now until then.
I've finished the following books:
1) All 8
MGMAT books2)
OG 11 and 12
3)
OG Verbal 1st and 2nd editions
4)
OG Math 1st and 2nd editions
5) Kaplan Premier
6) Princeton
I do better on reading comprehension and sentence correction than critical reasoning and better on problem solving than data sufficiency. I certainly need more practice on geometry, probability and permutation/combination questions.
Would love to hear your thoughts on how I should go about the next 3 months of studying and how I could bump up my score to 680-700!
Thank you all in advance!
