Ph.D only for Professors?

Hello,
Just found this site and I love it! I am in a 5-year MSM/Bachelor program in Technology Management at a State college in Massachusetts. When I graduate, I was thinking of going on to Doctorate school but I have heard and read so much about how only professors go to Doctorate school. Then I researched the potential of going for an MBA after my MSM and heard that to get those two degrees together is useless. I also think that with another degree from a more prestigious college than just a state school, I would have a better chance at landing a better job when I get out, how truthful is that? Just to note, I plan to go into the business world after schooling is done. While I still have plenty of time to decide, I still like to think about it now. Thanks

You read right..

Ph.D in business is almost always for academia. Especially if its top tier school, they clearly mention that the phd program is designed to be for students interested in academia.

If its a second or third tier school , they do not emphasize it that much. I know many guys who completed their phds in second or third tier schools and are now working in industry.

I don't know about that. Quantitative finance is getting so complex that many of the top=tier investment banks and quant shops will ONLY hire PhDs for certain jobs. Even FE from good schools won't have the necessary rigor for the kind of modeling and analysis they do.

I know it seem's to be a stupid question as I haven't expored wide range of PhD progs yet, and even haven't completed my undergrad degree yet, but anyway I'm going to ask it.

I simply curius,
Are all the PhD progs only full-time based or there is a chance to go on part-time and do my researches without interrupting my carrer?
