resources that explain concentration areas for schools???

resources that explain concentration areas for schools??? [#permalink] New post   27 Aug 2008, 22:34
Can anyone point to resources/posts that have details about which school is good for which concentration area?

Also, is there any resource that explain in detail the concentration areas? For example, what does Private equity entails, or venture capital, or finance, or investment banking...

It would be great to understand these areas thoroughly instead of just passing generalization.

UCLA's website is pretty crappy, but they surprisingly have some very good introductory verbiage on career paths. Click through the career paths and specializations to get a general idea.

As far as which school is good in what concentration, I've attached the 2009 US news rankings. Page 2 has the specialty rankings. Take them with a grain of salt, though and just use this as a starting point. What I mean by this is Babson is ranked #1 in entrepreneurship, but nobody in their right mind would choose that school over H/S if he/she wanted to take that career path. The specialty rankings are "somewhat" decent for finance, marketing, and management...

the ucla website does have a great primer.

as far as the schools' ranking by specialties, forbes also has a list, but they both lack substance and clear explanation.

Total Full time enrollment - would this be only for MBA (2Y) or all course the business school provides?
If you look at H/S/W/Sloan - 1808/741/1620/770. Isn't the number fo H/W way too much?

Those figures look like they include first year and second year students. So, Harvard has about 900 students a year, or 1800 in their full-time program. Stanford takes 370 per year if I recall, so 740 for both years.
