I had to laugh at the question because it reminds me of a specific scene from a show on Netflix called Norsemen. If anyone has ever seen the show, I hope he or she knows what I’m talking about.
The character V is upset that the other character made a comment about his thinning hair.
V tells the other character: “If I was a terrible person like you, I would mention how ugly you look with those burns....but I don’t resort to personal attacks.”
But what has V just done?? By bringing up the burns, V launches a personal attack.
This is why B is wrong. Sims is effectively saying: "I don't want to bring up age.....so I won't talk about how young and inexperienced you are." Through that little “jab” at the end about Rotelle’s youth, Sims is doing exactly what he says he doesn’t want to do: make age an issue. Thus, you can’t say that Sims in reality avoids the issue when he is slipping in a little “age attack” of his own about Rotelle’s youth.
Just because Sims says he doesn’t want to talk about it in the beginning does not change the fact that he actually does talk about it in the end.
Why -E- is correct:
Sims never directly responds Rotelle’s criticism that Sims is too old. Sims just “claims” that he doesn’t want to make age an issue, but then undercuts Rotelle with a little “verbal jab” about his youth.
No where does Sims actually respond to the allegation that he’s too old.
If you have Netflix: Norsemen, season 3 episode 5. Fantastic show and a great diversion.
