bad among the worst ..is C ..
All choice seems incorrect because of "apple to orange comparision"..
Just as with many successful authors, in C intented to mean that the fate of Salman Rushdie’s first novel is like that of other authors ( in terms of abject failure ) ..

This might looks weired explnation ...but in my limited capacity I am able to do only this ..
Verbal gurus , pls help ..

Assuming authors as author's

Going for 3-2 split between idiom about and on

E looks OK. Since like should be used to compare noun and 'As' should be used to compare verb.

I am not sure about the arrangement in E. As did many successful authors (did what)?
