Ozmba2006--why do you say that Stern likes the GMAT so much? I sure hope that's the case.

What other schools belong to this category? Columbia is one that comes to mind. Not to sure about stern though. I heard that Stern is very stringent on the GPA criteria, so i did not apply there.

I went the creative route. I was of the opinion that if describing myself to class mates I would not use 500 words. So I did something else. It wasn't that great, but my thought process was to have people remember me (class and adcom) being part of the "90% of the same" was not a good thing.

Remember that essays can be creative expressions as well. You could choose some hobby/interest that sets you appart and describe yourself through it. For example, on the website there was a girl who describe herslf through the different flowers she choose (?pretty, smelly?). She actually made a garden and sent it as a visual but I imaggine that an essay would have worked as well.

Besed on this and similar examples they choose to mention on the website, sonds to me like NYU likes "my life is like a box of chocolates" metaphorical cr@p.

But I am just speculating as the rest of you...

How did you tackle Stern's freelance essay #3?

Please describe yourself to your MBA classmates.

I am so fried with daily crap, that I am having trouble taking a step back to reflect on something that would make it interesting to my classmates. Not that I am incredibly boring, just not too creative.

Do I describe a single greatest day in my life?
Do I talk about my background in general? Essay #1 asks for that too, so I'm not sure about this one.
Do I write something witty about a mundane detail?

Do I just treat it as any other essay and keep it straight and formal?

How did you approach it?

I think this is one essay you must visit last
First See what Kind of person your other essays portray you as
See what are the missing items that the other essays do not portray
Example You may be an artist and rest of essays portray accademic, prfoessional excellence and analtical abilities then this essay could be used to portray the creative side to ur persona

As Somebody in the forum said each essay is like a chapter of the Book called "your candiidacy for MBA"

Review ur other essays and list down your experiences and choose a theme which will help you balance ur app. This free lance essay is a gift by adcom to help you to achieve a balance in your app
