Super Irregular Verbal Score- Tips and Strategy to counter it. [#permalink]
EMPOWERgmatRichC

Thank you for taking out some of your time for my query. Here is my response to the questions:

Studies:
1) On what date did you take your 1st GMAT?
1.1) I wrote my GMAT on 27th November, 2019. Around 24 days back from now.

2) How long did you study before each attempt? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2.1) I graduated this year and I was working two months back, before taking a break and focusing on GMAT and some other things in my life. I gave my first attempt, a solid one month of prep because I did not take any coaching or assistance. I have been fairly good with maths and despite being a non-native English speaker, I thought I will be able to pull it off. During the one month prep before my first attempt, I was studying for 5-some hours a DAY but it was mostly spread out throughout the day. Same time share went for my second attempt.

3) What study materials have you used so far?
3.1) Here is the list:-
-OG (Did not finish it in entirety. Maybe because after writing the first attempt, it burned out my belief in OG because of the vast difference in difficulty level between actual exam (much more difficult) and the questions in book.)
- Veritas Prep Mocks
- Manhattan Mocks
- Official Mocks 1&2
- Manhattan SC Book (I did a major share of this, but again, not completely)
- GMATClub Question Bank (I spent most of my time here)

4) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4.1) Here is the list:-

-> Manhattan Prep Mocks:
CAT 1- 19th Oct 2019- 680 (V38, Q45)
CAT 2- 24th Oct 2019- 700 (V36, Q50)
CAT 3- 27th Oct 2019- 700 (V37, Q49)
CAT 4- 5th Dec 2019- 720 (V40, Q48)

-> Veritas Prep:
CAT 1- 21st Aug 2019- 570 (V24, Q45) [This was a stupid/trial attempt, as you can see by the date]
CAT 2- 4th Nov 2019- 720 (V38, Q51)
CAT 3- 14th Nov 2019- 760 (V44, Q51) [Got me really hyped up. I still think it was a fluke]
CAT 4- 21st Nov 2019- 710 (V37, Q50)
CAT 5- 11th Dec 2019- 690 (V36, Q48)

-> Official Mocks
Official Mock 1- 31st Aug 2019- 620 (V29, Q47) [Forgive my GMAT Gods for wasting an official mock]
Official Mock 2- 25th Nov 2019- 710 (V37, Q49)
Official Mock 3- 13th Dec 2019- 720 (V38, Q49)

Goals:
5) What is your overall goal score?
5.1) 710 or above.

6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6.1) very honestly, I don't have a clarity on this. I am just trying to get my score in place. But most probably, it will be in 2021.

7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
7.1) I am looking at the following courses (in order of preference):
- MS in Marketing
- MiM

And here are the schools:
- HEC Paris (MS in Marketing/MiM)
- ESCP (MS in Marketing/MiM)
- Columbia (MS in Marketing)
- ESSEC (MiM)
- ESADE (MiM)

I will mail you my ESR right away and would love to know your two-cents on that.

Thank you for your efforts and time. Looking forward to hearing from you! :)

Hi Andy98,

Based on the verbal data from your ESR, it’s clear that you need to improve your CR and SC skills in order to improve your verbal score. Would you like some advice on how to do so?
