C

From st1 b+65+75+z+d=230. And a=v+10.
Hence b+z+d=90. No clear info about a. Hence insufficient

From st2 z=40. Hence v=60. No info about a. Hence insufficient.

Combining a=70. And b=40. Hence sufficient to answer

Hi Sasindaran

from statement 1, b+65+75+z = d = 230. I think d is already given to us. Can you please recheck, maybe its a small mistake.

Re: The chart above provides a breakdown of car transactions for a local [#permalink]
A is sufficient

Statement 1: b+z=90
Adding all values from lease and purchase columns, (a+v) +(b+z) +265=475
Since b+z is given, we have 2 variables.
Also from Statement 1, a-v=10
2 linear equations for 2 variables. Hence, a and v can be calculated, and then corresponding b and z as well.

Statement 2: only one equation, a+b=110
Insufficient

The chart above provides a breakdown of car transactions for a local dealership. Were more cars leased in 1999 than were purchased in 1999?

(1) A total of 230 cars were purchased, and there were 10 fewer lease transactions in 2002 than in 1999.
(2) 40 cars were purchased in 2002.

I loved the ambiguity presented in the question, its just facts everywhere and if one misses anything in statement 1 (which of course I did) then its real challenge. :-D

It did take me 2 min 30 sec even when the question was very direct. I don't think there is an easy alternate method to find the correct choice.
