The numerous illnesses and injuries suffered by John F. Kennedy during his presidency have been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine are the effect of his health problems on his presidential decisions, on his family life, and on his legacy.


A. have been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine are(use of are is not correct)
B. has been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine is(use of has is not correct)
C. have been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine is(correct)
D. has been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine are(use of singular verb has in 1st sentence & plural verb are is wrong )
E. is relatively well established by recently released records, but that which is much more challenging to determine is( use of present prefect is correct rather than simple presen,but that which construction is not correct)

Choice C is correct

Answer:
Simple question on subject-verb agreement. 'The numerous illnesses and injuries' is a plural subject and whereas 'effect' in 'what is much more challenging to determine are the effect' is singular

A. have been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine are : 'are' is used for singular subject effect
B. has been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine is : 'has' is used for plural subject 'The numerous illnesses and injuries'
C. have been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine is : CORRECT
D. has been relatively well established by recently released records, but what is much more challenging to determine are : same problem as option A and B
E. is relatively well established by recently released records, but that which is much more challenging to determine is : 'is' is used for plural subject 'The numerous illnesses and injuries'
