C looks the most appropriate to me though I am not so sure about the use of 'which' in it.

Only C does the right comparison.

A is wrong because wordy and also compares apple with bananas

C compares female with female, hence is correct

Correct idiomatic usage of Like /Unlike is -

Unlike/Like X , Y

(C) is correct because it uses correct idiomatic usage -

Unlike female birds of most species,which use their song, to warn other birds away from their territory or their mate, female alpine accentors sing to attract potential mates.

Hence (C) is correct...

Why option A is wrong?

Unlike the way song is used by female birds of most species, to warn other birds away from their territory or their mate, female alpine accentors sing to attract potential mates.

Here the comparison is between the way song and female alpine accentors which is incorrect comparison....

All other options except C have illogical comparison .
C compares female birds of most species with female alpine accentors

"Unlike" can only be used to compare nouns(Unlike X, Y), now look at the non underlined part to find out what is being comparedand you will find that we are comparing "female alpine accentors" with something.

E. in most species,in which song is used by female birds -> here we are comparing the characteristics of a species with Female alpine ancestors

Option C compares "female birds" with "female alpine accentors ".
That's why Option C is correct.
"which" in this sentence is referring to "species ". Is it ? chetan2u VeritasKarishma GMATNinja

Option B is wrong because it uses incorrect "comma + with " construction.

Although I understand why option C is correct, I still think use of 'which' is dubious, since 'which' is not used for people/living being-here species.
Can anyone throw light on the same.

Using that and which with species is absolutely fine. There is some debate about whether that and which can be used to refer to humans, so I won't get into that, but we should be fine as long as we're discussing animals.

Here is another official question that uses both that and which to refer to species/animals.
