Now, there are various NGO's, and other extra curricular that you are given the opportunity to take part in. The problem is, some of them, are maybe not so valid!
Like for example, there is one where you get to volunteer for an organisation called CARE. Now the only thing that the volunteers do is, ADVERTISE blablabla. Forward text messages like "There is an initiative that has been taken up to protect the environment, you need to blablabla, for more details contact XXXX"
and there are other NGO's where, you get to take part in events. There are some people that take part in literally only 2 events of that NGO and get a certificate confirming that they were a volunteer. and there are some where, literally no matter how many activities you take part in, you have to KNOW people and do a lot of ass-kissing to get into a "President of Orange Leaf" - Chennai (A city in India) Chapter.
What are the expecting you to have accomplished in these extra curricular activities? What exactly do you write in your resume when it comes to the extra curricular? One could EASILY lie that they made a difference but in reality they have probably taken part in max 3 events.
and there are some! Where you'd take part in marketing an pan India search service application (similar to YellowPages) developed by a bunch of students at their own interests. I could add that to my resume! That I actually did things like
"Performed requirement analysis, and gathered intel why people would prefer our application to a competitor and how to differentiate our product from a competitor"
"Helped in analyzing the needs of the application and helped populate the database with servicemen"
But there's no "CERTIFICATE" for this right? Although, yeah, when the app does go into the market, my name will clearly be seen as one of the founding members. What if it doesn't go to the Google Play Store? then my work in this application is not warranted in any way! I spent hours and hours roaming in streets finding Carpenters, Electricians and Plumbers to add to the database (It's specifically to locate such domestic servicemen in and around your area, although apps like this exist, it was my job to find what we could implement differently in this application that would beat the competitors. BUT ITS NOT WARRANTED FOR. I'm repeating what I just said lol. So does it have to be WARRANTED to be added into the Resume?
Actually, it's easier than that. People believe you. And you tell the truth. No need for certificates or anything. Just writing the truth on your resume.
