Hi,
I see a lot of posts on timings strategies for Old Gmat, but hardly any timing strategy for New Gmat.
Can someone please help me how to work on Gmat verbal, meaning How many questions should be targeted in first 40 Minutues so that I finish the test on time.
I am counting on Verbal for my overall score but struggling to finish it on time. Every Verbal CAT I have to guess last 5 questions plus I under perform (due to the clock) after 23rd -24th question which further decreases my score. My concepts are pretty much ok and I have good accuracy otherwise.
Thanks
Time bench-marking is essential technique for achieving the required score; however, time benchmarks depend on target score and test taker's ability, so there's no absolute pattern. For example, two test takers with same abilities, but one targeting at V41 and other aiming for V35 may have contrasting or similar time bench-marks.
Basically, a test taker has to figure out by Trail and Error method time bench-marks that work for him/her, and it can be figured out by analyzing performance in each subsection and by understanding GMAT's scoring system, and then testing various devised patterns of time benchmarks during the mock tests. For reference, I have attached an image of my Verbal time benchmarks for a target score of V39
To arrive at perfect time bench-marks is not the only part of timing strategy. It's actually more important to execute the plan, and execution can be implemented only by practicing the timing strategies during mock tests or during regular problem solving, so make sure that you get into the habit to stick to your plans.
I have limited my answer to just discuss about time bench-marks as I have assumed that you are familiar with commonly known timing strategies. If you wish to know about them or anything else, then feel free to ask.
