Hi All! I took the GMAT this past weekend and during my AWA section, my essay started to type in Japanese. Has this happened to anyone? I got no good resolution from GMAT about this and apparently this is under review for what the resolution will be.

WHAT?! That sounds like a mistake in the keyboard settings on the computer you were using. But that's completely bonkers -- I've heard of tons of glitches on the test, but that's a brand-new one.

Don't be afraid to be pushy with GMAC on this. In theory, they should offer you a retake for free. Were you happy with your quant and verbal scores, or were you planning to retake anyway?

hey ryansc ,

Sorry, but your post made me laugh. How can this happen?

I believe they will give you fee waiver or something.

Do let us know what happens.

Thanks.

Interesting! Thanks for reporting.... what did you type? Anything? Did you end up taking the Q&V portion of the test?

Thankfully the glitch happened on the last sentence of the essay. Bummer I wasnt able to finish the rest of the essay. I figured it was just one sentence so I just took the test anyways. Was super pleased with my score. I also just got my score back and it looked like my essay score was aok! Overall 760 with 50Q/42V and a 6 on the AWA.

Whoa, congratulations on the killer score!

And now we know the secret: type the last few lines of your AWA in Japanese, and really good things will apparently happen. ;)

Now you don't even need GMAC to give you a free retake, but I'm still curious to see how they resolve it. Congrats again, and good luck with your applications!
