The Wharton EMBA program recently posted information that paints a broad picture of the students who form the Wharton EMBA Class of 2025. These are the students who began their Wharton classes in May 2023. There are 278 students in the EMBA Class of 2025: 121 in the Philadelphia cohort, 110 in the San Francisco cohort, and 47 in the new Global cohort. Members of the EMBA Class of 2025 hail from 41 different countries.
The average student age is 37. Only 3% of students are under 30 (approximately 8), and 25% are over 40 (approximately 19).
Women comprise only 34% of the class (approximately 94 of the 278 students). Only 15% of students are underrepresented minorities (42 of 278). Fifty-two percent of matriculating students have an advanced (graduate-level) degree.
Many candidates will be happy to learn that the median EA score dropped two points from last year’s 157 and stands at 155 for the Class of 2025, with the middle 80% of scores ranging from 150-163. The median GMAT score is 711, with the central 80% of scores ranging from 660-750.
The median salary of students at the program’s start was $230,000, and 27% of matriculating students were being sponsored by their employer (with the employer paying 50% or more of the program costs).
Nearly half of the class are employed in the healthcare, technology, and finance industries (healthcare (17%,) technology (15%), and finance (15%). Some observers may be surprised that only 5% of students are employed in the manufacturing industry. Investment banking/management and automotive professionals each make up 3% of the class. Students from the real estate, aerospace, and energy industries each make up 2% of the class.
These numbers may raise some concerns. Candidates may worry if their salary is only in the low $100,000s. “Will my salary level hurt me in admission to the Wharton EMBA Program,” they ask. Others will wonder if they should apply if they are in their late twenties. Others will be concerned if their EA score is at the low end of the range, at 150 or less.
Just remember, the admissions committee will look at your entire profile and all the strengths and valuable experiences you can bring to the school. You should strive to put together an outstanding application, paying special attention to your essays and recommendations, which can be pivotal to your success. The application functions as your marketing package, with the potential to convey your outstanding credentials and present your future goals in a compelling fashion. If you can put together a persuasive case for your admission through your application, you may be able to override weak areas of your profile.
