seeing options
D& E are out since m=+3
out of a,b,c
test eqn with given values
IMO B is correct as we get x=2 at y=1 and vice versa

Solution


Given:
    • A given line, whose slope is -3
    • The line passes through the point (2, 1)

To find:
    • The equation of the given line

Approach and Working:
We know that if a line has a slope m, and passes through the point (x1, y1), then the equation of that line: (y – y1) = m (x – x1)

In this case,
    • m = -3
    • x1 = 2 and y1 = 1

Therefore, the equation of the line:
    • y – 1 = -3 (x – 2)
    Or, y – 1 = -3x + 6
    Or, y = -3x + 7

Hence, the correct answer is option B.

Answer: B

Using slope-intercept form y = mx + b, we see that the slope m = −3, but we don’t know the value of b,the y-intercept. We can solve for b by using the point (2, 1), which gives us x = 2 and y = 1. Substituting, we have:
y = mx + b

1 = -3(2) + b

1 = -6 + b

7 = b

Thus:

y = -3x + 7

Answer: B
