Hello Everyone!

I interviewed with a recent alum on Monday. Overall, I think the interview was pretty straightforward. I was asked a couple of trick questions but I thought those questions were fair. The interview started with a general into and that was followed by why MiF vs. MBA, why LBS, career golas, electives I would like to pursue at LBS, etc. I also asked a lot of questions about the school and the programme. My suggestion for all future applicants would be to have a clear idea of what you want to get out of the programme and how you would go about achieving that. Make sure you do your homework on the school and the programme.

Thank you all for sharing your interview experiences on this forum. I am really hoping for a positive outcome.

Best of luck!

Hi All,
I had my face-2-face interview today. My interviewer was 2011 Alumnus and works in private equity in India. He turned out to be an amazing guy who bagged four offers on the campus !
The interview started with the usual chit-chat but he asked me to ask a few questions first (A bit different from "tell me about yourself" routine). So I asked him a few ice-breaker questions about his experience at LBS etc. As the conversation progressed, he asked me the tough questions one by one. The toughest one was - Why MiF and Why do I want a career in PE/Investments ?
As I do not have any prior PE experience and also as my interviewer works in same field, he not only grilled me but also at the same time we discussed a lot about finance in general and also indian economy, PE in India etc.
My tips to others - from my interview experience is that -
1. Be prepared to talk about "why MiF/What do you want out of the MiF program and how can MiF help you move in your career ? Why MiF from LBS, why not MIT or Columbia etc ?
2. Be prepared to answer logically and so made up "boiler-plate" answers are not going to help. Impromptu answers will clinch the deal here. But be careful.
3. Read a lot about the career in finance you want to take up ! and also try to speak to as many industry contacts etc about your goals and motivations. Be prepared by reading economist, financial times etc and following news from Bloomberg, BBC, CNN etc.
4. Develop a knack of thinking like a "devil's advocate".
5. Lastly pay extra attention to details while logically presenting your arguments and also interpersonal skills play a very important role. Persuasion techniques will certainly help a great deal in these interview.

Hope this write-up helps.

I am keeping my fingers crossed now. My interviewer told me that he expects to send his feedback by end of this week, so I believe - i have to wait till next week thursday for the final result !

And Best of luck to others who are still in the race.

Yup agree spending time on good essays score over higher gmat, as long as its above 650..

Interview was quite chilled-out. Just spoke about the market, common people in the market, the course, London and basic qns like why not CFA. It was more like a conversation than an interview. Two thursdays after the interview I got the admit email. Still awaiting offer package, portal login and related stuff.

Good luck guys

Thank you very much for details, very helpful. Though it depends on the interviewer very much, I'd like to hope that mine would be as chilled out as yours :) Good luck to us all!

I'm finally done with my interview! It lasted 1.5 hours, as mentioned earlier, looking more like a friendly conversation. My interviewer was a 2010 alumni. Interestingly, he mentioned that he has a specific set of questions which shool asked to clarify with me, among them were questions about family support and low gmat score. He tried to understand details of my work, making me explain specifics of the industry i work for (planning & performance management in the oild & gas). Another interesting question was what do i think about relationship between Azerbaijan and Turkey and Azerbaijan and Iran, unexpected one. Why MiF, why LBS, which alternatives were as expected there. Honestly I have quite a good impression, didn't feel any really bad parts... he mentioned that school asked to submit feedback till wednesday so probably i could have my answer this thursday... fingers crossed! and good luck to those who're applying :)

p.s. he mentioned that during last couple of years school changed the policy regarding selection process. if before they were seeking for academicly perfect candidates with high scores, now they have tendency to shift to people with professional achievements... he also had around 660-680 GMAT.

Hi I got dinged by LBS MBA ..I am thinking about LBS MiF course. Guys, any thoughts if its worthwhile to apply. My profile is GMAT 710, WE:5 , Corporate Finance and M&A, Undergrad : Decent

One of the challenges could be saying why MiF when I have already applied for MBA, what do you guys think.... Has anyone tried it before

In MiF application there is a specific question "why MiF not MBA" and there you'll need to be very careful with the reply. I think the best way to do it is to send your CV for evaluation for Peter Johnson (pjohnson@london.edu), MiF admissions committee strongly recommends to use this service before you apply. You can explicitly describe your situation and seek for advice. If Peter recommends you to apply you can go forward, if not - here is no point in application. You can read about the profile evaluation service here: https://www.london.edu/programmes/mif/whoisthemastersinfinancedesignedfor.html

good luck!

Good luck, rwkTX :)

Regarding financing option, I'm sad to say that there are still no news regarding HSBC. And there are basicly no other financing options available for non UK/EU residents... Neither through LBS nor through any other channels. I honestly do not have any idea how am I gonna finance my studies...

Thanks, Laman. My interviewer and I haven't met yet... next Monday (19 March) is the big day.

Has LBS given you any estimates for the fully-loaded cost you should expect (e.g., including rent, other living expenses, fees beyond tuition)?

Hopefully there will be some positive news on the HSBC loans soon. I'm expecting to have to pay my own way though, assuming I'm accepted.

Good luck

Hey, apologies for late response! How was your interview?

Regarding budgeting living expenses, school offers quite a good view here: https://www.london.edu/programmes/budgetinglivingexpenses.html Rent is the biggest expense. Depending on your ambitions, it can be anywhere from 600 to 1500gbp per month... For example, me, planning to stay in the student house or share a flat with someone (max 750 for rent) will budget for 1200-1300 per month...

Another question... how are you planning to find a flatmate? Does the school provide any assistance or a forum to help people interested in sharing to match up with each other?

a little after you get the offer, you get access to LBS portal, a powerful communication tool used by all students. It has all info you need, together with profiles of your classmates, a great discussion board, a database of admits willing to share a flat (both MBAs and MIFs) and much much more. Overall portal is a universal communication tool and you can access MBA & MiF data there. A good habit is to write a small introduction about yourself. Usually people indicate if they will be searching for a classmate, I personally picked someone who shared my habits etc. and quickly agreed with that person :) there is also a FB group and a LinkedIn group, so you get to know people around you quite quickly :)

Hello everybody!

Good luck to everybody who is waiting :!:

Congratulations, Fleritta! If you didn't see it before, consider reviewing these links for some background on the interview process.

I definitely recommend spending some time reviewing the elective offerings and concentrations... it seems that the interviewers make a habit of asking what courses interest you most and which electives you would want to take.

Well, I submitted mine like five minutes before the deadline. Good luck to you Daphne! Let me know if you hear anything.

Sorry for late response! Crazy Q1 12 closing :)

I'm from Russia, Moscow.
2 years in Accounting, 5 years in Financial analysis in Telecom.

Had my interview last Sunday. Now awaiting for the feedback... Fingers crossed :)

Best Wishes !

If you don't mind, can you share your interview experience here with us ?

My interview was relatively short, a bit longer that an hour. The alumnus was very experienced, he graduated from LBS in 1997. He asked me about my current work responsibilities, why I want to study MiF at LBS and what I'm planning to do right after graduation. He asked a lot of challenging questions about the company I work for and why I didn't consider other companies that in his opinion are more attractive.

He is an investment banker but conducted some IPOs for telecom companies in the past. So he challenged me how good I understand the industry I work in.

As fas as I understoon that interviewers are sent a list of questions they need to asnwer about the prospective students. They need to comment on your level of enthusiasm, your communication skills, your commintment to the programme and plans for the future.

We also discussed the electives I'm planning to attend and he gave his opinion whether they suit my future plans or not.

I think that my interview had a positive outcome but it was difficult to guess what his impression was :(

Will see. Hope my feedback will be useful...

Any late R4 Applicants, who received an interview call ?

Can anyone throw some light on how long, on average, one has to wait for the interview call ?

Is two weeks a long enough wait or Does It mean it's curtains ?

Any views are welcome.

i also waited for 3 weeks... also it merely depends at the time they get to your applicantion. as i see there is no direct correcation between the interview call and time you submitted the application - i guess, it is simply a big pile of applications which they do not seem to sort by date... anyway, good luck, and be patient! overall application process is a true torture. we are with you! :)

Guys,

What are your thoughts on 1 year MBA from oxford Vs LBS MiF.

From what I can think of Oxford gives an internship and has same access to IB and other financial institutions.

LBS probably scores on the reputation (maybe), course content, and location in London.

The cost is more or less the same. although oxford has a loan option through prodigy.

Lemme know...
